Cub Scout Pack 124 - The Camping Pack

Welcome to Pack 124 – The Camping Pack

Cub Scout Pack 124 was chartered in 1998, and offers a full-featured Cub Scout program. While most of the boys in Pack 124 are in Welch Elementary School, we welcome any boy (entering or in Kindergarten through 5) to join the pack.

Our goal is to provide the best scouting experience possible and too large a group inhibits our ability to do this. The Pack meets from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. the 2nd or 3rd Friday of each month September through May.  We usually meet in the Welch Elementary School multipurpose room or the gymnasium at Yellow Box Church. These meetings are an opportunity to present patches and awards to the Scouts, communicate upcoming events, and participate in a fun organized activity.  The Pack is divided into Dens which are determined by school grade. If there are a large number of boys in one age group, we have more than one Den for that age group. Boys may join at any time while in grades 1 to 5.

Þ      Wolf Scouts are second graders

Þ      Bear Scouts are third graders

Þ      Webelos I Scouts are fourth graders

Þ      Webelos II Scouts are fifth graders

Dens are led by parent volunteers and meet either at the home of one of the scouts or a local ‘Go See It’ meeting at the police station, radio station, etc.  All parents are required to volunteer in some role for the Pack, as a Den Leader, committee member, activity coordinator, and with fundraising.

We communicate information regarding upcoming events during monthly Pack meetings, Den meetings, and via email (please make sure that we have your current email address). Obviously, attending meetings and checking your email are the best way to know what is going on.  Our web site is: www.pack124naperville.scoutlander.com, but this is used for general information sharing about who we are.  We communicate and track advancements through Scoutbook.com.  The site has information on requirements, achievements, contact information for Pack Leaders, and lists upcoming events. Our pack is a member of the Indian Prairie District (www.indianprairie.org) of the Three Fires Council (www.threefirescouncil.org) of the Boy Scouts of America.

Camping

As noted earlier, we are a camping pack. The Pack has gone on many organized overnight camping events. Here are some of the places we have been: Starved Rock State Park, Blackwell Forest Preserve, Von Oven Scout Reservations, Cantigny, Green Valley, Warren Dunes State Park, Water Fall Glen, Apple Valley State Park, Camp Big Timber, Camp Freeland Leslie, Shabbona State Park, and White Pines State Park.  Along with camping, we have gone on many other fun overnight adventures, such as:  Eagle Cave, USS Cobia, LEGOLAND, Museum of Science and Industry, Shedd Aquarium, Planetarium, YMCA camps Duncan, Tecumseh, and Maclean, Operation Cubsicle, Haunted Hayrides.  Three Fires Council also sponsors summer camps for scouts of all ages.  The council website lists the current offerings.

We are always looking for new and interesting locations to visit, if you have suggestions or ideas, please discuss them with the camping chairEach Scout must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian on Pack 124 campouts. Some of our campouts are family campouts. This means that any members of the Scout’s family may join us. This is announced when permission slips go out.

Opportunities to Contribute / How to help make it work

Pack 124 depends on adult volunteers to make it work. Getting involved is a great way to contribute to the success of the Pack and the experience that our sons have. Every parent is expected to volunteer with Pack 124 each year in some capacity. This could be holding one of the committee positions or assisting with one of the Pack events, the key is that we all pitch in at some point.  If you are new to Pack 124 we encourage you to take a little time and get a feel of the group, our needs, and assess where your skills and interests would have the greatest impact. Most of the positions have manuals and materials that will walk you through what needs to be done, and the council has excellent training, instruction, coaching if you are interested.   Feel free to speak with any of the current Leaders to learn more about a position and how you can contribute and ensure a great experience for your son(s).

Thank you for coming tonight, please let us know if you have any questions

Yours in Scouting
